What is ACPR?

In short

ACPR is the French authority that supervises banks and insurers, and its register lists the company number of a French insurer.

ACPR is the body that watches over banks and insurers in France, so checking a company against it shows whether it is allowed to sell cover here. Each supervised company is listed with a company number, which is the quickest way to confirm the business behind a policy. Allianz Care, for example, is listed under 401 154 679 RCS Bobigny. Look for that number on the policy wording and on the insurer's own paperwork: if it is missing or different, ask before you pay. The register matters most when a claim is going wrong, since it tells you who is actually responsible for the money.
