What is IRDAI?

In short

IRDAI is the Indian insurance regulator, and it registers every insurer and insurance intermediary operating in the country.

IRDAI is the regulator that licenses and supervises insurance companies and intermediaries in India, and it keeps a register of the firms allowed to operate here. Every listed entry has a licence number, which makes it easy to confirm the company behind a policy or a comparison. Acko is listed as 157, ET Money as CA0680 and Fibe as CA1037. Registration also shows the category a firm is licensed for, so a number on its own does not mean a company can write every type of cover. Match the category on the register to the product on your screen before you pay a premium.
