What is Excess?

In short

The amount you agree to pay towards a claim before the insurer covers the rest.

An excess, or deductible, is the share of a claim you pay out of your own pocket; the insurer covers the remainder, up to the cover limit. Some plans start at no excess at all. 1st Insurance lists €0 and AA Breakdown £0, meaning nothing is withheld. 24ins.bg sets the bar at €38.35 for pet insurance, while Acierto.com and ActivoBank start higher. A lower excess usually costs more in premium.
